Mrs. Johanna Roman works with our partner organizations in Latin America to conduct programs that help promote peace and stability with particular focus on youth development programs in agricultural communities. As a Program Manager, she leads and supports project activities including identifying program partners; overseeing or leading field activities; writing reports and helping promote student and faculty involvement.

Johanna has worked for Texas A&M University and Texas AgriLife Research for most of her professional career. She served as Director for Latin America at Texas A&M’s Borlaug Institute for International Agriculture for eight years and managed large agricultural development programs in several Latin American countries that promoted production of high-value horticultural crops, marketing, food processing, and education. Many educational programs targeted rural youth and indigenous women. She also served as Assistant Director for Latin American Programs at Texas A&M University for six years, promoting student and faculty abroad experiences and coordinating important conferences and events for Latin American visitors.

Johanna has a B.S. and a Master’s degree in Horticultural Sciences from Texas A&M University and a Master’s degree in Education focusing on Leadership and Organizational Management. She is fluent in Spanish and her family is in the coffee production business. Mrs. Roman was selected to serve as a mentor for USAID’s Innovation Marketplace as part of TechCon 2016.
