Gavin “Patrick” Finnegan graduated cum laude from Loyola University New Orleans (LA) with a B.A. in World Religion and minor in Political Science. During his sophomore year Hurricane Katrina forced Gavin to evacuate New Orleans. Following the forced evacuation, he lived in and established shelters surrounding New Orleans before relocating to College Station for the fall semester. Gavin spent the summer of ’07 studying Tibetan Buddhism and teaching English in Northern India. After graduation Gavin worked at the Texas State Capitol as a legislative assistant and volunteered 26 months in rural Jamaica as a Peace Corps Sanitation/Community Development Specialist.
In 2013, Gavin completed his International Affairs master’s degree at the Bush School of Government and Public Policy at Texas A&M University. During his studies at A&M, Gavin has taught English in Guatemala and has concentrated his studies on International Enterprises & Agricultural Economic Development. Gavin has been working as program coordinator at the Center on Conflict and Development at Texas A&M University in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Current research initiatives include: cassava propagation, identifying conflict resistant agricultural practices and the effectiveness of former child soldier reintegration programs.
