Ruth Matamoros Mercado is a University of Texas student completing her Latin America Doctoral Program. She traveled to Nicaragua in the Summer of 2021 to complete her Student Media Grant Program. Through her project, Ruth seeks to illustrate the political, territorial, sociocultural, and environmental resistance that indigenous communities of the Moskitian, in the Northern Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua are leading against extractivism and colonization of their lands.
